Lezing Jos Boys (Matrix Feminist Design Cooperative) en gesprek over inclusieve architectuurpraktijk
(English text below)
Lecture Jos Boys (Matrix Feminist Design Cooperative) and conversation on an inclusive architectural practice
Jos Boys is one of the founders of the London-based feminist collective Matrix, which was active in the 1980s. On this evening at PAF (platform for architecture & feminism), she will give a talk on feminism and architecture. This will be followed by a discussion with her, three guest speakers, and the audience. The main language of the discussion will be English.
We will talk to Jos Boys via videocall about Matrix's work and the book Making Space. Women and the Man-Made Environment, which we read for the PAF Book Club on 15 March. She talks about feminism in architecture in the past and present.
After the lecture, there will be room for questions to Jos Boys and we will have a conversation with architects Li Mei Tsien (president ufvAb, B612associates), Eyukewe Dogo (architect UN Studio, VAi board member) and Somaie Sedaghat Niai (care worker Hubbie vzw). They are each, in their own way, committed to a more inclusive society and architectural practice.

Jos Boys is one of the founding members of Matrix Feminist Design Cooperative. In addition to her role at Matrix, she remained active in research and teaching, including as director of the Learning Environments Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Centre at The Bartlett UCL. In 2008, she co-founded The DisOrdinary Architecture Project, a platform led by disabled artists that collaborates with built environment students, educators and professionals to radically reimagine approaches to accessibility and inclusion.
Li Mei Tsien is an engineer-architect and urban planner. She studied at KULeuven, Architectural Association in London and National University of Taiwan. She founded the firm B612associates in Brussels with Olivier Mathieu. Besides her architectural practice, she is chairwoman of the ufvAb, the union of women* Architects in Belgium, which she has been involved with since 2002. The ufvAb advocates for all women* in architecture, landscape and interior design and strives for a more open and inclusive society. Among other things, Tsien also teaches at Mons University and co-curated exhibitions at home and abroad.
(Women* represents a broader, more inclusive interpretation of womanhood).
Eyukewe Dogo is a French-Belgian architect born and raised in France with roots in Togo. He worked for more than 10 years in Belgium at various architectural firms and has been living in Amsterdam since January 2023. He is currently working as a Senior Architect at UNStudio, where he is involved in various large scale international projects. His commitment to social change led him to take up various positions inside and outside of the field of architecture. He is currently a Board Member for The VAI (The Flanders Architecture Institute) and for Antwerp Pride with Diversity and Inclusion remit.
Somaie Sedaghat Niai studied architecture in Germany and at the University of Antwerp. She wrote her master's thesis on the participation in urban planning of super-diverse populations. After her studies, she worked as a participation coordinator at Createlli and did her internship at RVDA, an architecture firm focusing on innovative typologies for housing, care and culture. During her internship, she decided to switch to the care sector to be closer to people, something she missed in architectural practice. She currently works as a care worker at Hubbie in Brussels, a care organisation providing support to people with disabilities.
